The problematic trend Celtic must eradicate on the next trip to Ibrox

Celtic have been a frustrating proposition to observe in recent weeks.

Particularly under John Kennedy, there has been an up-turn in chance creation represented in almost every fixture he has taken charge of. Offensive approach play has contained more fluidity; however, the same profligacy in-front of goal has reared its head.

The Celts go to Ibrox to face our arch-rivals on Sunday lunchtime. In terms of wastefulness in front of goal, Celtic have noticeably suffered at the hands of our biggest adversaries.

In the last two Glasgow Derby fixtures, Celtic have dominated proceedings but have failed to capitalise effectively. Despite registering 32 shots on goal, the Hoops have only converted one effort. [BBC][BBC]. Fundamentally, Celtic need to alter this pattern in Govan this weekend.

These statistics are part of a wider issue at Celtic; forward players are struggling in-front of goal

The 12 goals in seven games since John Kennedy entered the hot-seat does not seem the worst on first viewing [Sky Sports]. Equating to around 1.7 per game, there is a deeper-lying issue at play. Three-quarters of the eventual 12 total, were amassed in two encounters versus Falkirk and Livingston respectively [BBC].

In the other five remaining contests, the Celts have only scored three goals. In spite of retaining the vast majority of possession. Whilst also creating more chances than the opposition in all games, the Hoops have looked shaky in front of the target. More than any other game, this shortage of ruthlessness was clear for all to see away to Dundee United.

Creating several guilt-edge opportunities throughout the clash, Celtic had 27 shots on goal without success [Sky Sports]. The creation of more openings in recent weeks has provided some encouragement for supporters in bleak times. Nevertheless, the Celts need to rectify their lack of composure in-front of goal as it has led to dropping points routinely.

Hopefully, this weekend can be the catalyst for some much-needed goal mouth success.
