The worrying stat that proves Martin O’Neill is single-handedly saving Celtic’s season

Celtic were perhaps fortunate to get away with winning against Falkirk on Wednesday night.

Benjamin Nygren’s first-half header was the difference between the two sides as the Hoops moved back into second and remain six points behind Hearts.

Anyone watching the game would have been uninspired with what they saw, as even Martin O’Neill claim that his side were fortunate to win.

Perhaps more worryingly, the win against the Bairns proves that the Hoops are relying on the 73-year-old far too much.

Would Celtic have won that game under Wilfried Nancy?

Martin O’Neill has won more games than any other Celtic manager this season

This is the second time O’Neill has returned to the club on an interim basis following the departure of Brendan Rodgers and sacking of Wilfried Nancy.

Three points against Falkirk was the sixth Scottish Premiership victory he has achieved this season, as well as matching the total number of wins that Nancy managed at Celtic.

No manager has won more points than the Northern Irishman for the Hoops this season either, collecting 18 from a possible 18.

To do it in considerably fewer games is both impressive and concerning as without him, things would have been a lot worse.

Martin O’Neill can’t do it all himself

O’Neill has been a revelation, again, but he needs help from top to bottom.

The board need to get their wallets out and help find ready-made first-team players to bolster the squad.

Players also need to continue to dig deep and grind out results. From now until the end of the season, they need to be at their very best if they want to win the league title.
