There are growing calls for midfielder Ismaila Soro to start his first competitive match for Celtic, as Neil Lennon’s Bhoys continue to try and find some form.

A dreadful run of results has the manager on the brink of a Celtic Park exit and only wins are now going to dig him out of a hole.

Despite several first-team regulars underperforming in recent months, Lennon has stood by his favourite regulars.

Players such as Scott Brown, Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie look untouchable when it comes to starting eleven selection.

Soro has yet to even make his first start for the club despite signing in January, coming off the bench four times since his arrival.

On each occasion, he’s looked pretty tidy in possession and capable of providing a bit of energy and hunger to the middle of the park.

As my colleague Euan Davidson pointed out earlier, he didn’t give the ball away once during his short cameo on the pitch at the San Siro.

He is surely one of the players most desperate to impress right now, given his lack of football. Harnessing that for matches ahead could be a shrewd move from the manager.

If he can add a bit more drive to the heart of the midfield, in place of Brown, during Scottish Premiership matches, then our attacking players could have competent support in the final third, even though he’s a defensively-minded player.

At the very least, he needs a run of games so we can determine whether he has any long-term future at the club or not.

These fans have taken to social media over the last couple of days to share their thoughts on his potential inclusion…
