Nerves, excitement and a sense of unpredictability awaits Celtic in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

There has been a long build-up, but it’s not too far until the action gets underway as Celtic host Bayern Munich in the first-leg of their play-off encounter.

The Celtic Park faithful will be gearing up to be in full voice and prove to everyone why Champions League nights in Glasgow can’t be matched.

Given that Brendan Rodgers’ side are underdogs here, then the fans are going to be needed more than ever before and some are feeling optimistic.

Ahead of the heavyweight encounter, Frank McAvennie and Alan McInally discussed the game, their prediction and what Bayern Munich are going to be ‘unaware’ of.

Frank McAvennie backs Celtic to beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League

From Reo Hatate to Cameron Carter-Vickers, they are all going to be as important as each other and McAvennie wanted to highlight that.

McAvennie told his Let Me Be Frank podcast that he feels Celtic ‘will win’ the home tie, but he isn’t sure what will happen in Munich.

Although, he did highlight Celtic’s clean sheet away at Atalanta as an example of how the Bhoys can get the job done on the road.

“I think Celtic will win at Celtic Park, there you are,” said McAvennie. “Whether we go through or not. I don’t know. I think it’s a different kettle of fish when the crowd are there.

“If the team play the way they can play, then I think we had a chance. Maybe get a draw over there. Went over to Atalanta and got a wonderful result, especially after getting a doing with one of the German teams.

“I think we can do something. I really do. We can all hope.”

Alan McInally says Bayern Munich ‘unaware’ of the Celtic fans

Alan McInally was at Villa Park to witness Aston Villa beating Celtic during the final game of the league phase, so he has seen the champions of Scotland up close and personal.

Despite the loss against a team that qualified straight into the last 16, every player, especially given the circumstances, put on a serious fight and deserved plaudits for their performance.

But McInally wanted to highlight how it will be a different kettle of fish at Parkhead, as he thinks Bayern won’t ‘underestimate’ Celtic, but they will be ‘unaware’ of the power of the fanbase.

“I don’t think they will underestimate Celtic, first and foremost, Bayern,” said McInally.

“But I do think they will be unaware of how influential Celtic Park could be on a Tuesday or Wednesday night in Europe.

“You also have to add another little gold dust in because it’s such an important night for Celtic that there will be an even higher intensity to the game.

“If the fans impart anything on the players, then I genuinely believe that their best chance is at Celtic Park.

“What they can’t do is get tonked three nothing. End of. You need to be as tight as a submarine’s door and everybody has to do a good job. Kasper has to be in great form in goal to make sure they don’t put you to the sword.”
