Matt O’Riley is a special, special talent and Celtic fans are watching him blossom into a top-quality midfielder.

The best players step up when it matters most and Matt O’Riley did just that against St Johnstone on Sunday.

After captain Callum McGregor produced the goods to equalise, Celtic scored one of the goals of the season, which was exquisitely put away by the recently-capped Denmark star from the edge of the box.

Alistair Johnston, who was on the pitch for Celtic’s comeback win, praised his teammate on his Instagram story

From 14 Premiership matches this season, Matt O’Riley has scored seven goals and supplied five assists.

There have only been four games this term where the 23-year-old hasn’t been involved in putting the ball into the back of the net, which is some going.

Matt O’Riley is very much appreciated by the Celtic support and as you will read by Alistair Johnston, his teammates also love him in equal measures.

Matt O’Riley – the best player in Scotland?

Well, it’s someone within the Celtic squad and you have to say that O’Riley is probably shouting the loudest.

Chris Sutton did touch upon it earlier that he felt it was the case and not many can step up ahead of him.

Usually, the goalscorers get that extra spotlight, but Kyogo Furuhashi, who has six goals from 15 this term, would argue that he hasn’t been at his absolute best.

Another possible contender would be Reo Hatate, but he has been out injured.

So, you have to say, the title of the best player in Scotland right now probably belongs to O’Riley.
