Three changes on the cards; Celtic team news ahead of Motherwell test

Brendan Rodgers will be forced into making at least one change to Saturday’s eleven against Motherwell, but more tweaks could be made to his Celtic team.

Joe Hart is suspended for the trip to Fir Park after being shown a straight red card against Livingston last weekend.

He is only suspended for one match as the card was issued for denying a goalscoring opportunity, not serious foul play.

Rodgers was non-committal on whether his replacement would be Scott Bain or Benjamin Siegrist, speaking in a pre-match press conference.

However, given Bain has been named consistently ahead of Siegrist in match squads, it would make sense for him to get the nod.

Elsewhere, Nat Phillips’ ankle issue is ‘much improved’ per the Celtic boss, meaning he is a contender to replace Gustag Lagerbielke.

Rodgers will be keen on Phillips getting game time and Liam Scales has been in solid form over the last few weeks.

Lagerbielke is also suspended in the UEFA Champions League, so it would make sense for the Phillips and Scales partnership to get some time to build in a match situation.

The third likely change comes on the winger James Forrest could drop out to be replaced by Hyunjun Yang.

Forrest was included against Livingston due to his comfort with the artificial pitch. However, Fir Park boasts a quality grass surface this season and there should be no issues in giving the South Korean the nod.

The rest of the eleven shouldn’t see any other changes with a full week of rest since the Livingston clash. Although Lazio visit next mid-week, there are no fatigue issues at the moment and Rodgers will be keen on keeping a winning side together as much as possible.
