Three things we learned from Celtic’s draw with Copenhagen

Celtic drew 1-1 with Copenhagen in the first leg of the Europa League last 32. The Hoops went one-nil up thanks to a goal from Odsonne Edouard, with the Danes equalising thanks to a Dame N’Doye strike.

The biggest moment of the game came when Copenhagen were awarded a penalty thanks to VAR, but Fraser Forster pulled off a superb save from a Jens Stage penalty.

Here are three things we learned from the Hoops’ draw:

Fraser Forster is once more the man for the big occasion

Fraser Forster’s legend at Celtic seems to grow by the game. He pulled off a superb save from a Jens Stage penalty, tipping the ball onto the post, and preventing the Hoops from falling 2-1 behind.

Forster has been especially good for the Hoops in Europe this season, you only need to look at his performances against Lazio for that.

Should Celtic’s run in Europe continue, then Forster deserves all the credit after that save.

The demand for the player to be given a new contract will grow after what was another great display for the Hoops. That is for the future, but he once again showed his class in the draw.

Missed chances come back to haunt Hoops

Celtic really missed some great chances in the game. In the first 30 seconds Odsonne Edouard should have scored, but his effort was saved, then the same player and Olivier Ntcham missed good chances.

Even in the second-half, Callum McGregor and Ntcham once more had great opportunities to score a second away goal, but didn’t take them.

The good thing though is that the Hoops have shown for the second leg that they will get chances in the game. They just have to take them next week.

Frimpong will learn a lot from game

Jeremie Frimpong seemed to struggle at times in the game, which is perhaps understandable as he was making his European debut for the Hoops.

However, this experience will stand him in good stead for the future. Hopefully he will learn a lot from what was a difficult night.

So far he has passed every test he has had to deal with in a Celtic jersey. This was probably his toughest test yet, and although he didn’t have the best of games, he never gave up, and always got stuck in.

It could well make him a better player in the long run.
