Kieran Tierney says he’s hoping to reward Celtic’s loyal fans by completing the treble treble at Hampden.
The full-back passed himself fit for Saturday’s Scottish Cup final and then detailed how the Celtic support drives him and his teammates on.
He told the Celtic official YouTube channel (6mins): “They come, no matter the game, no matter the situation or the weather, they’re there supporting you. If you can give a trophy back to the fans that’s what matters.
“They work hard Monday-Friday every week to come and watch us. I know what it was like when I was younger. My Dad would maybe work late to go to the game on the Saturday or Sunday so to give back to the fans is massive for everyone in that changing room.”
A fans favourite
You get the impression that the 21-year-old means what he says too. Tierney has never been one to pay lip service for the sake of things. He speaks with a calm assurance and every word he says is believable.
If Celtic win the Scottish Cup and a ninth successive domestic trophy this weekend then the party will be like few others witnessed in the club’s history. The air of negativity and uncertainty that has shrouded the club in recent months would be replaced by a euphoric joy.
Having players like Tierney who understand the feelings of supporters is key for any team. Any new signings coming in this summer will immediately find out what Celtic are about when they talk to the likes of Tierney and Scott Brown.
The full-back has one more match of a pretty stop-start season to play. He’ll then go under the knife this summer. Hopefully he can sign off in style and back his words up once again.
