Interim Celtic boss Neil Lennon has cast doubt on Kieran Tierney’s participation in the upcoming league match against Kilmarnock.
He revealed to the Scottish Sun that the player was seeing a specialist about his ongoing hip injury.
Should Tierney miss the game, the logical replacement is available. That player is Jonny Hayes.
Hayes has mostly played on the wing for the Hoops this season. But he is more than capable of filling in for Tierney.
The better option
He would be a better option than Emilio Izaguirre, who it has to be said struggled in the recent 0-0 draw with Hibernian.
Also, if Hayes plays against Kilmarnock, Lennon could restore Scott Sinclair back into the side. His goals could make a difference in the bid to get the three points required.
Established himself in side
Hayes has firmly established himself as a favourite under Lennon. He has started some big games, such as the wins over Rangers and Aberdeen.
Therefore, he seems to be the logical replacement for Tierney. Not only for Kilmarnock, but also for the rest of the season if need be.
However, that does not mean that the Hoops should neglect the position in the summer transfer window. A new left-back should be at the top of the list of players to be brought in.
For now though, Hayes is more than capable of replacing Tierney in the side.
