Kieran Tierney looks certain to make his international return for Scotland against Kazakhstan on Thursday. Andy Robertson will miss the game, and Tierney should take his place at left-back.
However, the game seems to be fraught with danger for any Celtic fans watching. The game will be played on a plastic pitch in the Astana Arena. There has to be a worry that Tierney could suffer a reoccurrence of his hip problems playing on the surface.
Better to have missed games
It would have been best for the player if he had missed Scotland’s international games. He still doesn’t look fully fit yet, and was struggling at times against Dundee on Sunday.
However, the player has been selected for the Scotland games against Kazakhstan and San Marino, and he looks set to play a key role in both fixtures.
Could miss Glasgow derby
The problem for Celtic will come should Tierney suffer another injury. For a start, he would miss the upcoming Glasgow derby against Rangers.
That would be a big blow for the Hoops, as Tierney was badly missed when he was out of the side with his hip problem.
Tierney himself must believe he is capable of playing on the potentially hazardous artificial pitch. But that won’t make the situation any less worrying for the Hoops support, or indeed Neil Lennon.
All at Celtic will be wanting to see Tierney getting through the fixture unscathed.
