Celtic fans were no doubt pleased to see Tom Rogic make his first start of the season for the Hoops in the 6-0 win over Ross County.
The Hoops turned in arguably their best performance of the season in the game, and Rogic performed well enough to help the team go back to the top of the Premiership table.
Despite that though, it is unlikely that he will start in the Europa League clash against Lazio on Thursday. The reason for that – Ryan Christie will be available for the Hoops even though he missed out against Ross County through suspension.
Both Christie and Rogic have played in the middle of the park for the Hoops before. However, it is not likely to happen against Lazio.
Could start next league game
Christie’s form has been excellent this season, therefore it seems that he will return to the starting line-up. However, Rogic may well be back in the side for Sunday’s trip to Aberdeen.
That is because Christie will once more be suspended for that fixture. Rogic has an excellent record against Aberdeen, so it makes sense for him to return to the side.
Might well appear off the bench against Italian side
That does not mean that Rogic won’t be involved against Lazio. He could well be on the bench and feature at some stage of the game.
However, Christie has been the better player of the two so far this season. Rogic’s injury issues have contributed to that.
But Christie has arguably been Celtic’s best player this season. He has scored 11 goals so far, which is a remarkable goal tally.
Therefore, he will probably be one of the first-names on Neil Lennon’s team-sheet when the team that will take on Lazio is announced.
Rogic should not be downhearted over that though. His time in the first-team will come again. He just might not start against Lazio.
