Should Celtic fans be concerned about the form of goalkeeper Scott Bain? Probably not. But it is concerning how errors have crept into his game at just the wrong time.
In Celtic’s last two games, Bain has been at fault for goals conceded by the Hoops. He misjudged James Tavernier’s free-kick in the recent 2-0 loss to Rangers.
He was caught in possession which lead to Jake Mulraney’s goal for Hearts in the recent 2-1 win for the Hoops.
Out of character
The mistakes are out of character for Bain. Since taking over from Craig Gordon as the Hoops goalkeeper he has mostly been faultless.
One thing you can bet on though, is that Craig Levein will be telling his Hearts players to put Bain under pressure in the upcoming Scottish Cup Final.
They will feel that if you pressure Bain when he has the ball at his feet, he will make a mistake.
Lennon should speak to player
Hopefully Neil Lennon will be telling Bain that mistakes can happen to any player, and not to get too down-hearted.
There is no chance the interim Hoops boss will drop Bain for the game, that would be a huge blow to his confidence.
Bain just has to make sure that he doesn’t allow mistakes to once again creep into his game. Should he do that, he should end the game as a Scottish Cup winner.
