Football can be a funny, crazy world at times, and Stephen Welsh has proven that.
The most popular thing Welsh has done isn’t as a Celtic player, but in the colours of Motherwell.
On Wednesday night, Welsh scored against Rangers in the 89th minute to dent their Premiership title hopes and earn his ten-man Motherwell side a much-deserved point.
In the meantime, Celtic were beating Livingston in stoppage time, thanks to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s curling debut effort, and boosting their chances of defending their Scottish Premiership crown.
And Welsh’s efforts to help out his parent club haven’t gone amiss, with Celtic’s back-up goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo lauding the centre-back.

Welsh wrote on Instagram, ‘never give up’, and ‘thanks for your support’, in a message to the Motherwell fans.
But as you can imagine, the comments section of his IG account was filled with Celtic supporters lauding and applauding his efforts.
Including from Sinisalo, who simply wrote ‘What a man 🍀💚’, as that goal from Welsh could prove to be very pivotal at the end of the season.
Motherwell also get in on the act…
Only a few weeks back, Welsh was at Lennoxtown, wondering where his future would lie because he had been recalled from his Motherwell loan spell.
But as Celtic signed Benjamin Arthur from Brentford, Welsh was loaned back to Fir Park, with minutes left of the deadline, and his first start so happened to be against Rangers, as Motherwell’s social media account mentioned.
‘On his first match back at Motherwell, he goes and does that, 😱’ wrote Motherwell. ‘Stephen Welsh returns to Fir Park with a bang.’
