Jonny Hayes probably didn’t expect to get whacked by a Damien Duff punch at Tynecastle yesterday, but that’s exactly what happened.
We all had our own exuberant celebration last night. When Odsonne Edouard’s strike nestled in the back of the net, sheer elation took over us as Celtic supporters. It was another big step towards eight-in-a-row, and in a game where a winner didn’t look likely.
Yet, for new first-team coach Duff, he perhaps just lost it a wee tad. Brilliant footage has been released all over social media of the celebrations from the bench after Edouard’s goal. And as Hayes and Duff celebrated, the Celtic coach’s left-hand knocks one on Hayes as emotions ran high.
You can watch the footage from the incident below.

It’s a good thing Duff didn’t strike the likes of Marvin Compper or Tom Rogic or they would’ve been out for six weeks. But Duff probably isn’t the first Celtic man to want to have swung a hook at Hayes in his career.
But in all seriousness, how delicious is that passion for us? The sheer elation when that goal rattled the net even puts the last-minute winner against Kilmarnock in the shadow. That goal last night was special and will mean a lot to supporters and Neil Lennon going forward.
The likes of Duff, Hayes, and even Jack Hendry are celebrating the way we need to see them celebrating. Celtic showed a real unified stance last night in the fact of adversity.
On a side note, it’s also important that Hayes doesn’t get forgotten about by Neil Lennon. The Irishman had featured in Celtic’s last three games before the Hearts clash. Here’s hoping he gets his run in the team after another uninspiring Scott Sinclair display.
But that’s only if he’s managed to shrug off his hook from Duff of course!
