It was the loudest cheer of the afternoon.

On Saturday, Celtic thrashed Newcastle United 4-0 in a pre-season friendly in Glasgow, with Arne Engels, Johnny Kenny, Hyunjun Yang, and Liam Scales getting on the scoresheet.

You would think each of those goals going in would have cooked up the loudest cheers of the game, but think again, because that was reserved for a certain Kieran Tierney.

For months and months, the Celtic Park faithful knew their star boy was returning home from Arsenal this summer, and he entered the Paradise turf for the first time since 2019 when he was introduced as a second-half substitute.

Kieran Tierney’s message to the Celtic fans

To nobody’s surprise, Tierney assisted in his first game back on home soil when his brilliant pinpoint cross was headed home by Liam Scales for Celtic’s fourth of the afternoon.

As everybody can imagine, the Scotland star would have been overwhelmed by the reception he got, and he made sure to thank the fans on social media.

Tierney took to his Instagram story to explain the feeling from the Celtic supporters in that moment he entered the pitch.

‘Wow,” wrote Tierney on the reception he received from the Celtic fans. ‘What a feeling. Thank you so much. That was so special.’

Celtic introduce new signing during Newcastle United friendly

The 2025 summer transfer window has been a rather busy one for Celtic, with plenty of activity on both fronts.

In total, seven players have joined the champions of Scotland, including Tierney and a new striker in town in the name of Shin Yamada.

Yamada was introduced to the crowd against Newcastle, as he will be hoping to feature for Celtic as their next pre-season preparations take them to Italy and Lake Como.
