Celtic and Wolves played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in Dublin on Saturday.

The friendly was a bit of a last-minute arrangement after a planned game in South Korea had to be called off. There were just 17 days between the announcement and the match, but close to 30,000 supporters still packed in to the Aviva Stadium.

The crowd factor featured in a lot of the reports of the match, with the Celtic support once again proving to be a positive talking point.

Let’s take a look at what some of the English and Irish media made of the game.

The Shropshire Star described the Aviva Stadium as “rowdy”, with both sets of supporters creating an atmosphere to remember.

They say that Wolves were struggling to contain Celtic in the first-half and that the Hoops were opening up the Premier League side “at will”.

Talking Wolves (YouTube) reckon that we should be disappointed that we didn’t score more goals in what was a very open game.

The official Wolves report said the match had been entertaining but that the “intensity of the first period wavered after the break.”

In Ireland, the Independent had it down as a “fast-paced” clash that saw both sides have joy on the counter-attack.

They described Celtic as being wasteful in the final third at times, but praised the Hoops support, and noted their singing of “stand up for the champions” at one point during the second-half.

The Irish Mirror said the result had been fair and described the game as breathless, while choosing the focus on Matt Doherty’s return to Dublin.

So virtually everyone is agreed that it was a pretty good watch for a friendly. And the result was probably fair, even if Celtic were on top in the first-half.

Next up for the Hoops is Athletic Club on Tuesday.
