Who will start at right-back for Celtic against Lazio?

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has an intriguing selection dilemma on his hands for the Europa League fixture against Lazio.

The Hoops manager will have a decision to make about who to play at right-back against the Italian side. Jeremie Frimpong played for the Hoops against Ross County at right-back on Saturday.

However, he is ineligible to play against Lazio. Therefore, the Hoops boss will need to play a different right-back against Lazio.

Two options to choose from

There are two options that the Hoops boss can choose from. Those are Hatem Abd Elhamed and Moritz Bauer. In the two previous Europa League fixtures, Elhamed has got the nod to start.

It would not be much of a surprise to see that happen again. Interestingly though, when it comes to league games Elhamed has not started any of Celtic’s last three Premiership fixtures.

Neil Lennon has elected to select Bauer and Frimpong. That perhaps indicates that he is yet to decide who his number one right-back is.

Good performances have complicated issue

At first, it did seem like it was going to be Elhamed. But the arrival of Bauer, and excellent performances of Frimpong has complicated the issue.

At least for the Lazio game Neil Lennon only has to make a choice between two right-backs instead of three. If there is a prediction to be made, it is that Elhamed will get the nod to start against Lazio.

He seems to be Neil Lennon’s favoured player for the Europa League. That may mean that he does not start against Aberdeen on Sunday.

For the moment though, it looks as if the Hoops boss plans to rotate his right-backs. Only time will tell if that proves to be a good decision or not. As long as the Hoops keep winning, then it will be a good decision by the Celtic boss. Any defeats might force a change in his policy though.
