Let’s be honest, not many people gave Aberdeen a chance against Celtic in the Scottish Cup final.
But who can blame them? You wouldn’t have been surprised if the Dons supporters themselves had their glasses half full.
The simple reason is, only ten days ago, Celtic’s reserve side thrashed Aberdeen at Pittodrie, not forgetting the five goals that were scored at Parkhead in February.
Added to that, Brendan Rodgers’ men hit Aberdeen for six in the League Cup semi-final in November, so everything was in Celtic’s favour.
The majority of people were backing the holders to retain their crown and then secure another Treble.
But Dons legend Willie Miller, who was part of the famous Sir Alex Ferguson side that lifted the Premiership title, had other ideas.

Willie Miller reacts to Aberdeen’s shock Scottish Cup final win over Celtic
As the full-time whistle blew, BBC Radio Scotland host Kenny MacIntyre was keen to give Miller his flowers for backing his side to win the game before the match.
Miller himself explained that Jimmy Thelin’s men were ’total underdogs’, but he could ‘understand why’ because of previous results.
The former defender then lauded Aberdeen for their efforts, including showing his class in how they beat this ‘magnificent’ Celtic side.
“Total underdogs, nobody, including their dogs, gave Aberdeen a chance of lifting this trophy,” stated Miller. “Maybe apart from me.”
Host Kenny MacIntyre then added, “You did. You absolutely did, Willie. You felt before the game that they had a big chance.”
Miller then continued: “I think it’s about the fans. It’s about the Aberdeen fans. It’s about the players as well. It’s their moment. Nobody gave them a Scooby in being able to beat Celtic. I can understand why.
“I have sat and watched the 6-0. The 5-1 and the 5-1. But I also watched the 2-2 at Celtic Park. Jimmy Thelin changing it at half-time, and again here in the second half, changing it.
“Okay, maybe not the formation, but the intent and the gap between the back and the front two. Putting on strong strikers as well. You have got to ride your luck, but you have to do that against Celtic. They are a magnificent outfit.”
Brendan Rodgers’ record against Aberdeen
As you would imagine, given Rodgers’ dominant two periods in Glasgow, his record against most, if not everyone, is pretty incredible.
Aberdeen are one of the tougher teams to face, in regard to their club size and expectation.
But Rodgers has a pretty strong overall record against them, but that second loss in just 23 games is going to be pretty hurtful.
