There was so much pressure on Wilfried Nancy going into Celtic’s game against Aberdeen on Sunday.

As many would have seen and heard, supporters were starting to turn, including anti-Nancy chants during the defeat to Dundee United in midweek.

But Celtic won their first game under Nancy, beating 10-man Aberdeen, thanks to two late goals from Kieran Tierney and James Forrest after Benjamin Nygren’s first-half strike.

Say what you want about Nancy and his formation, one thing is for sure, supporters are liking what he is producing when Celtic are on the ball.

How Celtic fans were reacting to the performance against Aberdeen

Willie Miller was at Parkhead on Sunday. He was watching Celtic with his Aberdeen hat on, and he liked what he saw from the home side.

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, the Dons legend stated that ‘anybody with their right mind’ will realise that Nancy just ‘needs a bit of time.’

Miller also wanted to point out that, just before Aberdeen equalised, the supporters inside the stadium were ‘loving’ the performance of the team.

“Anybody in their right mind watching that performance from Celtic would have to say that he needs a bit of time,” said Miller.

“If this is what he can produce. If this is what he can produce consistently. The fans were loving it here. They were loving it up until the last ten minutes. It was simply because they couldn’t quite finish the fantastic play. Up until the penalty box, everything was sensational, and they just couldn’t finish.

“It was a mixture of, perhaps, poor finishing, but good goalkeeping, and very unfortunate in the amount of times they hit the woodwork.

“I would have thought the fans would be going away from Parkhead more confident. He deserved it (Nancy’s good reception from the fans).”

The January transfer window

This is going to be crucial for the Hoops and Nancy himself. You sense several players will need to come in for the team to seriously march forward.

Hearts are leading the charge at the top of the Premiership table, and they aren’t going away anytime soon.

But if Celtic can balance the squad out, bring in depth in quality during the winter, then there is no reason why Nancy can’t go to the next level, and then everyone can witness how Hearts deal with the pressure.
