23-cap Czech international lauds Celtic signing Josip Juranovic
Czech international Tomas Pekhart has lauded the Celtic signing of Josip Juranovic as he tipped him to one day be a big-money EPL signing.
The Hoops landed the Croatian right-back in a £2.5m bargain move earlier this summer [Scottish Sun]. Ange Postecoglou managed to secure the defender from Legia Warsaw, where he was teammates with Pekhart for a season.
So far, Juranovic has only played one game for the club. Even so, it was an impressive outing in his debut against Rangers at Ibrox. He would then go on to secure three outings for Croatia as the excitement levels over what he’ll produce at Parkhead beginning to rise.
And 23-capped Pekhart doesn’t believe the Celtic supporters will be left disappointing. He’s been bigging up the acquisition, and feels the move from the Bhoys will prove to be an extremely productive one.
As quoted by Glasgow Live, the Legia striker said: “Josip is quick and he’s strong for his size. He can play a number of positions on the pitch, sometimes he played central defence, right-back and half-back. He’s constantly running up and down and his strength is his crossing.
“He was very useful in our play, especially for me, we played with wing-backs who would put in incredible balls and I was happy to play with him. I played a lot with him and I think he will pass perfectly into the Scottish and UK style of play. He’ll put in a lot of crosses and I think he can be very good in this country.
“He might not already be at the level to play in the English Premier League but everyone from down south in the Premier League are watching the Scottish leagues. If he does well I have no doubt he’ll attract interest from teams in the Premier League.”
Celtic fans can’t wait to get another look at Josip Juranovic
Whilst the main talking point heading into Saturday is whether the deadline day signings will make their debuts, there remains undoubted intrigue surrounding Juranovic.
Given the performance he put in at Ibrox in an unfamiliar left-back position, fans want to see what he’s capable of against lesser opposition. Especially considering he could take the right-back spot for the first time against Ross County this weekend.
Juranovic of course will be looking forward to it himself. He may be off to a losing start after the Ibrox game. But if we’re all being serious, there were a lot of positives to take from the game. The Croat was one of them.
There’s a genuine hope that he’ll prove to be a step-up on anything we’ve got at right-back. Yes, that includes Anthony Ralston despite his recent renaissance.
Celtic have an important seven-game phase between now and the next international break. Juranovic will play a key part in that, both domestically and in Europe.
All of the report cards have come up trumps for him over the last two weeks. Let’s hoping we see that in full swing against County this weekend.
