If Celtic are looking for an experienced, well respected new manager then they need look no further than Roberto Di Matteo.
The Italian was one of the hottest managerial properties not so long ago, but he’s been quickly forgotten about after taking a break from the game.
He famously led Chelsea to an incredible Champions League win in 2012 but is currently unemployed after a couple of poor years.

Di Matteo won two trophies in eight unforgiving months at Stamford Bridge before moving on to Germany. He took the helm at Schalke, leading them to a 6th place finish in the Bundesliga.
He’s since had a disappointing spell at Aston Villa and has been out of the game for almost three years.

Di Matteo should be considered
The 48 year-old may not be the man to take Celtic forward, but he’s at least worth a mention. There are, of course, loads of questions about whether he would fancy working in Scotland. He may prefer to stay in English football, but Celtic should at least ask the question.
Those tasked with finding our next manager should be casting the net as wide as possible. Celtic can’t afford to be lazy with this one. Neil Lennon may be the best man to take us into next season but that can only be confirmed by analysing what else is out there.

The board need to do their due diligence with unmentioned candidates like Di Matteo. If they look at all of the options and come to the conclusion that a safe pair of hands is what’s needed then fine.
They can’t be seen to be taking the easy road out with this one. Not while ten in a row is on the line.
