RB Leipzig aren’t having much luck with injuries at the moment, with two of their prized midfield assets struggling with injuries that could rule them out of upcoming matches against Celtic.
As we discussed last week, the talented Dani Olmo is not expected back until mid-October after suffering ligament damage.
Now, Bundesliga commentator Derek Rae has reported that Konrad Laimer has been ruled out for weeks with an ankle injury.
Celtic play Leipzig in Germany on 5th October, with the return match in Glasgow coming just six days later on 11th October. Both games are pivotal for the Bhoys chances of a second or third spot in Group F that would guarantee European football after Christmas.
Laimer is highly rated at Leipzig and has made 167 appearances in total for the German club. Earlier this year, Bayern Munich entered negotiations to sign him but were rebuffed, with Leipzig setting a £25m asking price for his services. [Kicker]
It’s not all bad news for Leipzig of course. They’ve embarked on a new era under Marco Rose after disappointing form during the Domenico Tedesco reign, kicking things with with a big 3-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund.
After being humiliated against Shakhtar Donetsk last week, they’ll be out to show they can compete in this group when they travel to Spain to take on Real Madrid tomorrow.
Nonetheless, it is hardly bad for us if some of their key players are picking up medium-term injuries that could impact their selections against Celtic.
