£3.6m-rated South American talent follows Celtic on Instagram after transfer link emerges
Gremio midfielder Fernando Henrique has fueled the fire of recent transfer rumours after following Celtic on Instagram.
Brazilian outlet Globo reported last month that the Hoops had made contact with Gremio over a potential January move for the midfielder. It was said back then that he was valued at around £3.6m.
The same source has doubled-down on the speculation in recent days too. Globo believe Henrique is likely to leave in the new year with Celtic the most likely destination. And it appears the player also sees something in the speculation after following the club on Instagram:
It comes after Ange Postecoglou stated that he wants a new midfielder in the door in the upcoming transfer window [Daily Record].
Given the lack of progress made by James McCarthy and the minimal impact from Ismaila Soro, Celtic could still do with some high-quality alternatives in the central area.
It remains to be seen if Henrique is one of those priorities come the new year.
Fernando Henrique doing anything but taming the Celtic speculation
It’s important not to read too much into matters like this, but at the same time it’s difficult to just avoid its significance. Henrique likely wouldn’t be following Celtic if there was nothing in the transfer rumours whatsoever.
You have to imagine that his agent will constantly be filling him in over what could lie ahead. If Celtic is a realistic possibility, then fingers crossed we can get a deal over the line.
Henrique hasn’t made a Gremio matchday squad in 2 months as he continues to fall out of favour at the Brazilian club. A transfer looks inevitable for the 20-year-old.
But it’s difficult to gauge how high on the radar Henrique will actually be. Especially considering alternative sources have claimed that Aaron Mooy will actually be the number one midfield target this January [Daily Mail].
All eyes will be fixated on how much Celtic choose to spend in order to boost their title push also. The summer window certainly drained plenty from the transfer pot, but Postecoglou clearly feels he needs more bodies in to carry on with his rebuild.
As things stand, the Henrique rumour just won’t go away. Not that the player himself is doing anything to squash it.
