67 Hail Hail fans are in unanimous agreement about the role that Callum McGregor plays in Celtic’s side.

After a one-dimensional performance from Celtic’s midfield in the Hoops’ 2-2 draw against Hearts at the weekend, it became ever clearer that Celtic rely on McGregor too much.

Unless injured, there is no chance of him ever being dropped from the side as he is the only midfielder who can offer a different type of dynamic.

We asked you guys on TalkingPoints if you agreed with our verdict, and it seems that everyone is in the same boat.

67 Hail Hail fans think Celtic rely too much on Callum McGregor

Plenty of you joined the conversation to have your say on how much the Bhoys depend on their captain and believe that the only way to solve the problem is to bring in a different type of midfielder.

One fan said: “Absolutely. You see the centre halves and other midfielders constantly looking to give him the ball and make a pass, even if they are only two or three yards away from him and could make the pass themselves. Fair enough at times as he’s the best player but it’s as if they are scared to think for themselves or make a mistake.”

Another commented: “Yes we do rely on our skipper in every game. I would love to see his stats. He even played against Talbot. He needs a wee rest now and again. We are a poorer side when he is not playing. He needs help in the middle of the park. Hatate isn’t on form just now and Engels blows hot and cold. Nygren is a forward thinking player and not good defensively.”

Is the Celtic midfield too one-dimensional?

This Celtic fan added: “We need two new quality midfielders to help Callum and eventually replace him.”

A fourth wrote: “It’s a one man midfield, Callum and he’s currently struggling. Engels….. offers zero apart from pushing opponents. Bernardo never impresses when given a chance …… ditto McCowan.”
