The Daily Record is reporting that Brentford’s Rico Henry is high on the list of Celtic’s transfer targets. The report went on to reveal that Hoops technical director Nick Hammond went to watch the player in action for Brentford against Birmingham.
Brentford are set to offer the player, who is rated by the Championship club at £7 million, a new contract, the report concludes. His current deal expires in 2021.
Club can afford to sign player
£7 million might seem like a lot of money for the player. But there’s no doubt that Celtic can afford it. The club is flush with cash following Kieran Tierney’s move to Arsenal.
The need to recruit a left-back is pressing. Therefore, if Henry is the man that the Neil Lennon wants, then he should be signed up by the club as soon as possible.
If the money is right Brentford will accept
There’s no doubt that Brentford will want to keep the player. However, if the money is right then they will accept the offer.
Celtic wouldn’t have wanted to sell Kieran Tierney, but as soon as Arsenal offered £25 million the club reluctantly accepted the bid.
It is important that Celtic move fast to get in the players they want, in all positions of the park. But left-back is the most vital at the moment. It would not be a shock to see some transfer movement in the next few days. The money is available. Now is the time to spend it.
