Celtic stars, past and present, have taken to Instagram to react to Adam Montgomery’s performance after the Hoops loanee helped St Johnstone to a 2-1 win over Rangers.
The 20-year-old is currently spending the first six months of the season at McDiarmid Park as he aims to gain experience of regular first-team football in the Scottish Premiership.
There looks to be high hopes for the youngster after he featured as part of Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic squad in the opening half of last campaign.
So far in the 2022/23 campaign, the left-sided defender looks to have earned a consistent spot in Callum Davidson’s St Johnstone side, having made 14 appearances from 18 games this season.
And on Sunday afternoon, Montgomery returned to the Saint’s starting line-up, playing left wing-back, as they faced off against the Hoops Glasgow rivals Rangers.
The Celtic loanee played the entire 90 minutes and helped his team to a huge three points with a 2-1 victory, which also takes St Johnstone into the top six.
Not only did that result benefit his current club, but also his parent side. Thanks to Rangers’ failure to win, Celtic now sit seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Taking to Instagram in the aftermath of the result, Montgomery took to Instagram, posting a series of photographs along with the caption “enjoyed that one, big team effort ✌🏻”.
And several of Montgomery’s Celtic teammates, past and present, appeared to have enjoyed the young defender’s performance at the weekend.
Right back, Josip Juranovic responded to the post with three emojis, showcasing his appreciation for the youngster, stating: “🔥🔥🔥”.
Fellow member of the first team squad, Liel Abada, also joined in on the act posting a simple: “👏🔥”.
Former Celtic icon Scott Brown played with Montgomery at both Parkhead and his short stay with Aberdeen. The Fleetwood Town boss was clearly happy to see one of the Lennoxtown hopefuls doing well: “👏👏”.
Celtic loanee Mikey Johnston, who is enjoying his spell over in Portugal, also showed his appreciation, whilst a few of Montgomery’s youth teammates growing up at Parkhead, such as Dane Murray and Owen Moffat, were lauding the defender.
Other large parts of the first team squad, including Cameron Carter-Vickers, Greg Taylor and Matt O’Riley, also showed their support to the youngster by liking the post.
Not only was the academy hopeful receiving praise from his Hoops connections but also his current St Johnstone teammates. Ryan McGowan posted a comment stating, “Man like Adam”, and striker Chris Kane said, “What a player”.

Montgomery might not currently be at Celtic, but he is continuing to do plenty of learning whilst out on loan in Perth, working under Callum Davidson.
The left-sided defender put in a good performance across the entire 90 minutes on Sunday, helping St Johnstone to a huge victory at their home ground.
And that is bound to be a huge learning curve for the youngster, who spent large spells of the game defending his own area before having to either hit the opposition on the counter or keep the ball.
These may not be attributes that you credit Celtic defenders with. However, they are still absolutely essential for those moments when we need to defend in each game.
As mentioned, this wasn’t only a big result for the Celtic loanee and his current side but also for Ange Postecoglou’s men, who managed to stretch their lead at the top once again.
Of course, there is still plenty of work to be done. However, I am sure those at Lennoxtown will be happy with Montgomery’s contribution to the Hoops title hopes this campaign.
