Aberdeen director Rob Wicks has pleaded with the Scottish Government to allow fans to return to stadiums as a survey conducted by Aberdeen of their season ticket holders showed that a majority would feel safe about returning to Pittodrie, the Scottish Sun reports.
The Premiership club recently polled their season ticket holders to gauge how many would feel safe about returning to the stadium. 93% that responded said they would feel safe. Now, Wicks has asked the government to consider allowing fans into the stadium, and Celtic will undoubtedly be watching on.
“Urging the authorities”
“As anticipated, the overwhelming majority of our fans are desperate to get back to Pittodrie. Crucially, they are confident in our measures to protect them while in the stadium. With Aberdeen still in level 2, where fans are not permitted into grounds, we are urging the authorities to take account of what our fans are saying and allow us to be able to accommodate them, sooner rather than later” Wicks said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
It is fair to say that Premiership clubs are desperate to get fans back into stadiums. There are a number of reasons for this.
For a start, the clubs are losing money every week, due to not having fans in the ground. There is also the lack of atmosphere to contend with. That really does affect watching a game, so who knows how the players feel.
Return of fans unlikely to happen soon
Unfortunately though, you have to imagine that the director’s plea to the Government will not be heard.
With possibly more restrictions set to be announced, you have to think that for the majority of Scottish clubs it is out of the question for fans to return.
Therefore, unless you are a team in a Tier One area like Ross County then the wait for fans to return will go on. At this rate we will be lucky to see fans in stadiums before the end of the season. Sadly that probably includes Celtic Park.
