Aberdeen look like they’ve given up hope of bringing Max Lowe to the club next summer. The Dons recently announced the signing of NAC Breda’s Greg Leigh
The English left-back is fully expected to slot into Derek McInnes’ side meaning that a move for Lowe looks unlikely.
That news could be music to Neil Lennon’s ears. The Daily Record recently linked Celtic with a move for the 22-year-old who enjoyed a terrific season on loan at Pittodrie. The newspaper reports that Celtic had made an enquiry about Lowe’s availability on both a short and long-term deal.

Any Lowe deal must be permanent
If Celtic are looking to bring Lowe in then fair enough, but surely it has to be a permanent transfer? The Derby County defender has potential at the age of 22 but we can’t be seen to be developing another team’s player too frequently.
Loan deals are useful to Celtic when they are for players who would ordinarily be out of our reach. The likes of Patrick Roberts and Filip Benkovic are obvious example of using the loan system effectively – attracting quality for low fees.

Celtic could afford to buy Lowe outright and should do so if they think he’s the right fit. The Englishman would probably be available for the guts of £3million, which would be chicken feed in comparison to Kieran Tierney’s proposed sum.
If we’re to learn one lesson from last season then it must be that multiple loans don’t work. Celtic made three desperate loan signings in January and none of them worked. One deal was cut short while fans were happy to see the back of the other two. We must learn our lessons this summer.
