Aberdeen star Shay Logan’s dig and praise towards Celtic

Shay Logan’s comments on Celtic today has seen him manage to both praise and have a dig at the club.

Logan was part of the Aberdeen side who were mauled by the Hoops at Pittodrie just over a week ago. Celtic ripped the Dons apart with a slick display as we secured a fine three points with a 4-0 rout.

The right-back has been a long-term rival of Celtic’s. He’s recorded some provocative and unusual behaviour against us in the past – most notably when he was sent off at Celtic Park for trying to goad our supporters back in May 2018 (The Scotsman).

And he’s decided today to link us together with Rangers as he had a pop at both clubs. Speaking in the Daily Record, he made his dig before actually praising Neil Lennon’s side.

“Their funds are their funds and they have good money behind them but we have no debt, we’re a very well run club. Rangers and Celtic have the means and the funds. I just think it’s funny they can go and play the likes of Porto or Valencia in the Europa League and use it as ‘oh but’.

“It was a sore one to take against Celtic but we needed to bounce back and we have done that with six points out  of six. Celtic are a good team but they are a team which, if you give them a head start, you don’t catch them.

“Had we got to half time at 2-0 down we might have given them a game in the second half but we were sloppy, lost two more goals and it was game over.”

Logan’s big mouth has never been backed up by ability

Logan has impressively managed six wins against Celtic since arriving in Aberdeen back in 2014. But five of those came before Brendan Rodgers revolutionised the Parkhead side. He’s yet to record a win against Celtic in a meaningful game for the last three years. Their 1-0 win on trophy day is hardly worth counting.

But the one thing he’s always had is a big mouth. Whether it’s having a pop at our fans or our players, he certainly has a whiff of immaturity about him.

Yet, in fairness to him, he does manage to give us some praise here. He’s right to say that if we get a head start then you might as well draw the curtains on the game. Celtic raced out of the traps at Pittodrie, and the result was only going one way afterward.

However, to say that Aberdeen could’ve made a game of it if it was 2-0 at half-time is over-optimistic. Celtic were always going to pile on the misery for the Dons. Celtic took the foot off of the accelerator in the second 45. If they wanted to, there were more goals in it for Neil Lennon’s men.

Logan will have to get used to the fact that beating Celtic will be a rarity for him. The Bhoys are too strong these days to let him get the joy against us he once did.

And it’s fair to say, ever since we’ve been walloping the Dons on a regular basis, he’s certainly not had as much to say as he used to. That’s something we can all be satisfied with.
