Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis has admitted Celtic have left him frustrated and upset after Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final, The Daily Record reports (03/11 print edition, page 43).
Neil Lennon’s Bhoys are into yet another domestic final after winning the match 2-0 thanks to goals from Ryan Christie and Mohamed Elyounoussi.
It’s the fifth time that a Celtic side has beaten a Derek McInnes team at the national stadium and it’s an experience clearly wearing thin on some of their squad.
Joe Lewis said, as quoted by The Daily Record: “We feel it’s a missed opportunity. It might have been a different game if we had taken some of our chances early on because you don’t normally get many against Celtic, so you need to take them when they come.
“We started with an attacking team to try to get in their faces but the threat they caused us at the back was the other side of the coin. You have to try to balance that between defence and attack.
“We allowed Ryan a bit too much time and space on his left foot for a player of his quality to pick his spot, which was disappointing. Once you go 2-0 down it is difficult to get back in it.
“It’s difficult to summarise and take. I’m very disappointed and frustrated. It’s tough.”
Aberdeen gave Celtic a scare the week prior at Pittodrie, holding Neil Lennon’s team to a draw, so will be especially disappointed they couldn’t make their performance count in a one-off cup tie.
The movement from the Bhoys was simply too much for them to cope with.
The performances of Tom Rogic, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Ryan Christie were superb, as a returning Odsonne Edouard also caused problems.

It bodes well for future domestic tests that we’ve left one of the better teams in the country distraught again.
Now we just need to find consistency and a way to get at the Ibrox lot in the next derby.
