“Adding good people”; Postecoglou outlines his Celtic vision, planning to add staff

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has outlined his vision to improve the club, maintaining that his AGM takes place every day.

The Bhoys boss remains steadfast in what he wants to achieve at Parkhead, and how he’ll do it. After a week that brought boardroom drama and turmoil to the surface, Postecoglou is focusing only what he can do as manager.

That includes bringing in staff. Although he’s happy with the incumbent backroom team, he’s been consistent about improving what he has at his disposal.

The manager said [Herald]:

“The people in charge got some feedback the other day – I get that on a weekly basis. That’s okay. Did I get an easy ride at the AGM? Well, if I get it wrong on Saturday, who do you reckon will get the easy ride?!

“I said from the start that my first task was to assess what was here and what we needed to improve. I think my actions probably speak than louder than any words.

“We are slowly building something here. We’ve had to change the playing squad a fair bit. Some because of just natural progression, others because we needed to bring in some different types of players.

“Staff-wise I’ve got the same staff as last year but I’m adding to it, adding good people to it, which we will continue to do. That’s where I lay my marker down.

“I was brought in to look ahead and that’s what I’m doing. I think we have made some progress but we also know there is plenty to be done to get to where we want to.”

Despite AGM drama, Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is here for the long-term

Imagine being the manager of Celtic the other day. Fans are furious with your employers for myriad reasons. You’ve just got to sit there and keep schtum.

It can’t have been an easy day for him. Especially when the same fans absolutely adore Postecoglou for what he’s done so far. No trophies yet, but an excellent style, an entertaining squad and an emphasis on values that chime with the fans’ ethos mean he’s well-liked by supporters.

Again, we’ve got to say his priorities are right. In terms of what he can affect, his AGM is on a weekly basis.

He says that Celtic are slowly building something. I’d disagree with that – the improvements since the summer have been rapid. There’s a promising network of young players, the first-team are getting results, and there’s real optimism about the club now, in many respects.

Not at boardroom level, but in terms of what Ange is doing? It’s been far from slow.

Admittedly, yes; his lack of staffing hires have been a worry. At least from the perspective of his own happiness. However misguided it may be, the concerns that Ange hasn’t been given some of his own staff have led to some calls that he’s a “Yes Man” for the board. That doesn’t seem fair, but it’s a legitimate point.

In any event, despite a week of claim and counter-claim, Ange Postecoglou sounds happy and determined to make his mark at Celtic. His actions will speak louder than his words, as he says.

But the words, at least, are promising.
