Callum McGregor might have won it all as a player in Scotland, but he still revels in proving the Celtic doubters wrong, the Celtic View reports.

McGregor, who has won 13 trophies with Celtic, indicated that the Hoops squad, despite all their recent success, were motivated by the critics ahead of the recent game against Lillie.

Celtic went into the game on a poor run by the club’s high standards. However, the Hoops managed to pull off a creditable 2-2 draw, and that return to form continued in the recent Scottish Cup win over Aberdeen.

“Answer the critics really well”

“People seem to like pointing fingers at this squad, but they always come back and answer the critics really well. Everyone expected us to lose to Lille, but we were one or two moments away from winning the game, and that shows the character and determination of the boys” McGregor said, as quoted by the Celtic View (Volume 56, Issue 15, Page. 15).

It is a good thing that the current group of players, even after so much success, are motivated to prove people wrong. That shows that the team are not content to rest on their laurels. They want to achieve more success, to show that the team is still the best in Scotland.

Recent criticism was harsh

The recent criticism that Celtic faced was a bit harsh. Yes, the performances weren’t good. McGregor would probably acknowledge that. However, there were extenuating circumstances. At least four first-team players were ruled out due to Covid-19, and others due to injury.

Even for a big squad like Celtic, that’s not easy to deal with. However, the Hoops seem to have bounced-back from that sticky spell, and look to be in fine fettle once more.

If the current run of form continues, McGregor could have even more opportunities to revel in proving the doubters wrong. They probably should have learned by now, but it seems to not be the case.

In other news, James Forrest’s lengthy injury absence could hand an opportunity to Karamoko Dembele.
