Agent officially confirms Celtic interest in Georgios Giakoumakis
The agent of Georgios Giakoumakis has officially confirmed that Celtic are interested in his client this summer.
The Daily Record reported yesterday that Ange Postecoglou had been leading a pursuit of the Greek international. This supposedly led to a phone call between the pair in which Giakoumakis was left mightily impressed with the Hoops boss.
Celtic have been in the market for a replacement for Frenchman Odsonne Edouard. However, there are no imminent signs that he’ll be leaving anytime soon outside of the fact his contract is up next summer.
But even so, Celtic have an interest in taking Giakoumakis from VVV-Venlo this summer after the club’s relegation from the Eredivisie.
As quoted by Voetbal Primeur, the player’s agent made the following brief response when asked about Celtic’s interest:
“That’s right, but I can’t say more about it, we’re looking at all options.”
Agent confirms speculation; Celtic would be getting a proven goalscorer in Giakoumakis
If Celtic were to snap up Giakoumakis this summer, we would certainly be getting a goalscorer. In fact, he finished as the top marksman in the Eredivisie last season with 26 goals despite the fact his side fell to relegation [Transfermarkt].
With six Greece caps to his name and a clear ability to perform at an elite level, he won’t be satisfied with the second division in Holland. A move to Celtic is destined to appeal. And, given the player’s attributes, he would prove Postecoglou with something different.
For all of Celtic’s attacking threat, they don’t have much of an aerial threat. This is an area Giakoumakis could improve the Hoops in greatly. A vast amount of his efforts last season came from his head.
The club only has until August 31st to tie down any more summer signings. And it looks as though Giakoumakis is one of the top priorities.
Let’s see if we can pull it off.
