Aiden McGeady announced his retirement last week after a career spanning more than 20 years.

The Celtic hero enjoyed stints in Glasgow as well as Russia with Spartak Moscow, the Premier League with Everton and internationally with Ireland before winding down.

He would also play for Hibs and Ayr United while acting as the latter’s technical manager dealing with recruitment for the first-team as well as organising youth academy incomings.

It was a role working closely with manager Scott Brown.

He also learned closely from former Hibs sporting director Graeme Mathie as he looked to take his first steps into that sort of role.

And while he may have been combining it with playing towards the twilight of his career, McGeady still took plenty from it.

Now that the 38-year-old has hung up his boots officially, the Irishman has a new path to tread in his career as he noted in his latest social media post via LinkedIn.

His next move will still be in his wheelhouse in terms of working in football recruitment, but it is a somewhat left-field move away from Scottish football.

The retired playmaker has been accepted onto the English FA’s Leadership of Talent Identification & Development in Football and begun his new journey this week.

The course McGeady will study has specifically been designed to help scouts learn and sharpen their skills for those active in the game.

Experienced tutors and guest speakers will provide their expertise on how McGeady and his fellow participants can hone their craft and become better talent-spotters in the process.

McGeady has also been studying for his A licence in coaching and he has an Msc in sport directorship, communications and media studies.
