Al-Ahly sporting director Sayed Abdel Hafeez has said that Celtic have not made an offer for their midfielder Mohammed Magdy, although he does expect offers from clubs to come in the future, the Scottish Sun reports.
The 24-year-old was recently linked with a move to Celtic, as reported by 67HH. The player’s agent claimed that Celtic wanted to sign the player and loan him out to a club in Europe.
However, Hafeez has said that isn’t the case. He claims that the news is a distraction from preparations for the African Champions League Final.
“There has been no offer”
“Firstly, there has been no offer for Mohamed from Celtic or anyone else. And secondly, this is not the time to talk about transfers. All our focus is on the Champions League Final and this kind of needless talk is distracting for both the player and the club. We accept there will be interest and eventual offers for him and that’s a tribute to his success this season” Hafeez said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
Interestingly, the Scottish Sun reported last month that the player’s agent said that the Hoops had made an offer to sign Magdy. Obviously that didn’t happen.
However, the transfer might be one to watch out for once the window opens again in January. It is quite intriguing that the sporting director hasn’t ruled out the player leaving, and that there will be ‘eventual offers’ for the player.
Only time will tell if Hoops make move
Could that mean that Celtic are one of the clubs that will make a move for Magdy in January? Only time will tell.
However, one thing that has to be said is that when it comes to midfielders who like to attack, like Magdy is, aren’t exactly thin on the ground at Celtic Park.
He might find it difficult to get into the Celtic side. We shall find out soon enough if Celtic are interested in Magdy, or if it is just more transfer gossip.
In other news, some Scotland fans are delighted that Leigh Griffiths is back in the national team squad.
