Alan Brazil & Gabby Agbonlahor slap down Jason Cundy’s latest nonsense Celtic opinions

A club the size of Celtic will always attract different opinions and debates from people all across the football spectrum, especially when it comes to discussion of getting into the English Premier League.

Mostly, the debates remain respectful as people recognise that a club the size of Celtic would, in time, be able to compete in the English Premier League.

But when it comes to pundits like talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy, you can forget about a debate being respectful or making sense because he, like many pundits down south, just can’t seem to grasp how big Celtic are in footballing terms without resorting to childish snipes.

Jason Cundy put straight over ‘harsh’ Celtic comments

talkSPORT trio Gabby Agbonlahor, Shebahne Ahern and Alan Brazil were speaking about Celtic’s season when the conversation took a wee turn about the Glasgow giants making a hypothetical move down south.

Talking about Celtic joining the English Premier League, Brazil said, “It’s not going to happen. It’s like turkeys voting for Christmas.

“If you’re the chairman of a Premier League club in England, would you allow Celtic or Rangers to come in?”

Cundy: “But it’s like putting Barnsley in there.”

Agbonlahor: “Oh, that’s harsh, Cundy. Celtic would do well in the Premier League.”

Cundy: “No they wouldn’t. They wouldn’t. Honestly. So Liverpool have won one Premier League title in the last 30 years. One. What makes you think Celtic could do anything?”

Brazil: “Are you telling me we couldn’t give Wolves a game, or Ipswich a game? Teams like that? Yeah, we could. You’re forgetting how much money you get in the Premier League compared to the SPFL.”

Agbonlahor: “You reckon Celtic would get less points than Derby?”

Cundy: “I think Celtic would be bottom half at very best. Even if they stay there for 15 years, bottom half.”

Jason Cundy put straight on the size of Celtic

The conversation then went in the direction of the size of Celtic and the atmosphere Parkhead produces that would give Brendan Rodgers’ team an advantage over EPL sides.

Agbonlahor: “I think teams will struggle with the atmosphere at Celtic Park. I’ve been lucky enough to go to a game. I think they would struggle mate. I think Chelsea will struggle there with the atmosphere.”

Cundy: “We would just roll them over. They would. If Villa go up there, three points. Arsenal go up there, three points. Chelsea go up there, three points.”

“This debate goes on about Celtic and Rangers coming down. The truth is, massive clubs in the Premier League have never won it. Leeds have never won the Premier League.”

Brazil: “When you say massive clubs, are you saying Celtic and Rangers are not massive clubs around the world?

“I would suggest Celtic and Rangers are as big as West Ham, as big as Chelsea, if not bigger around the world.”

Cundy: “Big club in Glasgow. That’s it. They could compete, but not win it.”

The vast majority of Celtic fans probably wouldn’t be interested in moving to the Premier League despite the vast riches it would provide.

Celtic are Scotland’s most successful club and are progressing well in Europe despite not having the vast sums of cash Man City have who are currently below the Hoops in Europe’s elite competition.

With Celtic on the cusp of yet another record-breaking treble, I’m sure the fans will treat Cundy’s comments with the disdain they deserve.
