Alan Brazil tells Gabby Agbonlahor what Celtic fans won’t accept against Aston Villa

Brendan Rodgers can breathe a little easier when he prepares Celtic for their Champions League clash against Aston Villa.

Celtic got the job done against Young Boys and now their name is in the hat for the play-off rounds.

There is an outside chance of a top-eight finish, but even a big win at Villa Park won’t guarantee that because of the number of teams ahead of the Bhoys.

Celtic are sitting 18th on 12 points, one point behind eighth-placed Bayer Leverkusen, but four other teams are on 12 points and five other teams are on 13 points, including Unai Emery’s Villa

The Hoops are going to need a serious performance in the Midlands and some luck to book that automatic spot.

But fans aren’t too fussed about that because the most important target has been met, and that’s the name being in the hat for the knockout phases.

Now, Celtic can enjoy their trip to Villa, but they aren’t going to enjoy it like Gabby Agbonlahor thinks they will, as Alan Brazil was relieved to wake up to some positive news on Thursday morning.

It all went off in the first half, including goals being ruled out for fouls and offsides to Arne Engels’ penalty being saved.

Brazil shared that he went to bed with the game still goalless, and when he woke up, he was delighted to see the result, as he told talkSPORT.

“Watching last night, it was amazing,” said Brazil. “It was amazing, just before the game. They are great nights at Parkhead. I didn’t see the whole 90 minutes because I had to go to bed.

“Do you know what? I can’t complain about the three goals. The penalty, mmmm. Normally, I am screaming at the Tele. Slagging the ref off. I couldn’t. I was so relieved when I woke up this morning and it was 1-0.

“At Parkhead, Celtic can give anyone a game. I couldn’t believe it last night. I was like ‘what’s going on here?’. Oh, yeah, yeah. Definitely (Celtic deserved to win).”

Celtic fans won’t accept ‘friendly’ type of game against Aston Villa

Agbonlahor has already apologised to Celtic and told the Scottish giants that his former side will be looking for ‘goals, goals, goals’ next week.

That’s because Emery’s men sit one place outside of the automatic places and are in with a serious chance of getting a top-eight finish.

But Alan Brazil warned Agbonlahor that Celtic won’t turn up to the Midlands just to relax because they have already qualified.

The Celtic-mad pundit made it clear that the supporters won’t allow a ‘friendly’ type of game and there will be an expectancy to do something.

Agbonlahor stated: “It takes the pressure off now, it’s a free hit against Villa. No pressure. You don’t want to be going to Villa who need to score goals to probably get through (in the top eight) on goal difference.”

Brazil responded: “You say that, with the Celtic fans travelling. It will be like Rangers fans going to Old Trafford. And the Celtic fans going to Villa Park, you can’t play friendlies if you are Celtic.”
