Alan Brazil thinks Celtic are looking stronger than Rangers coming out of the January transfer window, in part thanks to a return to form for Leigh Griffiths, writing in his Sunday Post column.
Celtic added two players to Neil Lennon’s squad last month – midfielder Ismaila Soro and striker Patryk Klimala.
However, there was disappointment in the club’s failure to land a centre-half and a winger of some sort, with question marks about Jozo Simunovic’s fitness and Mikey Johnston suffering an injury.
For Brazil, the Bhoys are still in pole position when it comes to the title race and is relishing the thought of Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard playing more regularly together.
As quoted by The Sunday Post, the radio host said: “I reckon, on the whole, Celtic are looking slightly stronger now the window has closed.
“It’s not so much down to the two guys they have brought in, Patryk Klimala and Ismaila Soro – though big things are expected of both.
“I’m most excited about Leigh Griffiths’ return. He’s been straight among the goals after coming back into the side alongside Edouard.
“I love the look of those two as a partnership, and if I were a Premiership defender right now, I’d be dreading coming up against both of them.”
Griffiths is looking sharp – can still improve
The heartening thing about Griffiths’ resurgence in recent weeks is that there’s an impression he has even more to give in a Celtic jersey. He still isn’t quite at his peak form.
Don’t get me wrong, three goals in his last five matches is nothing to sniff at. He also did well to turn his Hamilton opponent today and draw a red card and a dangerous free-kick opportunity.
However, as his missed chance on the volley showed, he can still find even more of a lethal instinct in front of goal that will make Celtic even more dangerous over the coming months.
With competition from Klimala and more regular minutes available due to a change in formation, Brazil is right to be excited by Lennon’s strikeforce.
