Alan Forrest, the younger brother of Celtic star James, is set to join him in the Premiership next season – according to the Scottish Sun.
The paper say that the young Ayr United player, who’s also a winger, is poised to sign a pre-contract deal with Livingston ahead of joining next summer.
Championship sides Dundee and Partick Thistle are also said to have been keen on the 23-year-old but the prospect of playing Premiership football seems to have swung the move Livi’s way.
Of course, Gary Holt’s side aren’t completely guaranteed top-flight football next season. They could still be relegated from the Premiership this term.
But given that they currently sit fifth, 13 points clear of 11th placed Hamilton Accies, that doesn’t look like a real possibility.
Alan could meet his older brother James next season
Like Celtic’s mercurial talent James, Alan spent many of his younger days in the Celtic academy before leaving for Ayr several years ago.
He’s become a massive player for the promotion hopefuls over the past couple of seasons – and has started 21 of their last 22 matches in all competitions at a result.
If the move does indeed go through it will be very interesting to see how he copes with the increased demands of the Premiership – where his brother has excelled over many seasons.
The youngster has never played against Celtic but he should soon get that opportunity if he continues his career growth.
Could we one day see a Celtic team with Forrest’s on both wings? It remains a distant possibility but one that has moved a step closer with today’s transfer report.
