Former Celtic defender Alan Stubbs believes that Brendan Rodgers will regret leaving Celtic when he did. The former Hoops boss shocked Celtic fans by leaving the club to join Leicester City. Stubbs feels that the timing of the move was all wrong.
“I think that, over time, Brendan will regret leaving when he did,” Stubbs told the Herald.
“Right now Brendan will have his reasons for leaving but, to the people on the outside, the majority will think that he has made the wrong decision.”
Fans will agree with comments
Stubbs’ comments will echo the thoughts of the majority of Hoops fans. If Rodgers wanted to leave at the end of the season they would have grudgingly accepted it.
But leaving in the middle of a title race is not the right thing to do. As a result, Rodgers has gone from hero to zero in the eyes of the Hoops support.
Too early to tell
It is still too early to tell if Stubbs will be proven right overall. At this moment in time, it looks like a big mistake by Rodgers to trade Champions League football for Premier League mediocrity.
But should Rodgers have a good season with Leicester next year, he would probably believe he made the right choice leaving when he did.
That is for the future though. At the moment, Celtic fans must try to get over one of the most shocking developments to occur at the club in years.
