Preston North End boss Alex Neil has given little away about Celtic linked defender Ben Davies.
The Hoops have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old left-back in recent days, and could sign him on a pre-contract in January.
Neil was asked about Davies, and another player, on Thursday morning and kept his cards close to his chest.
As per Lancs Live’s report of his press conference (9:28am), he said: “Both of them remain the same, the exact same. No update.”
Davies won’t fix immediate left-back issue
Last month, Neil told the same outlet that he valued Davies at the £10million mark.
Neil was clearly at it with that comment, as nobody in their right mind would pay an eight-figure fee for a Championship player out of contract in less than a year.
Celtic seem likely to land Davies in January, but that would mean he wouldn’t be able to play for the club until next season.
That wouldn’t solve the problem that exists right here and now.
We have one full-back in the building and need at least one reinforcement for the coming season.
Perhaps that signing could turn out to be a loan recruit, plugging a gap until Davies can join next season.
Or perhaps we’re going to end up bringing in two permanent left-backs over the next few months.
