Alex Valle is enjoying a run in the Celtic first-team as the on-loan Barcelona defender covers for the injured Greg Taylor.

At just 20 and at Celtic temporarily, Valle is playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and has already featured in one of the biggest Champions League results in the Bhoys’ history.

Celtic’ draw with Atalanta was Valle’s sixth of the season in the green and white Hoops and the young Spanish U19 international was asked how he’s enjoying life at the Parkhead club and what he thought of making his temporary Celtic spell permanent.

Alex Valle ‘enjoying’ life at Celtic on loan from Barcelona

Alex Valle is due to head back to Barcelona at the end of this season. His contract at the La Liga club expires in 2026 but does have a two-year option.

But the youngster is not thinking about that just now as he admits he’s loving life in Glasgow and at Celtic.

Valle told the Daily Record, “At the moment, I’m just looking forward to this season, I just go year-by-year. I don’t know what will happen in the future. But I’m enjoying it here. I love this city, it’s been great for me so far. First of all, I want to learn as much as I can here.

“I’m a young player so it’s really important to play as much as I can and develop. Then, if trophies come I’ll be happy, of course. That’s what we want, everyone at Celtic, the fans and the players. It’s normal that we want to achieve that. We want to win as many trophies as we can this season.”

Alex Valle says playing for Celtic ‘is the same’ as Barcelona

Valle was also asked how he felt he is adapting to life at Celtic and the young defender admits it’s been helped by the fact that Celtic’s style of play is not too dissimilar to the Catalan giants’.

Valle continued, “This move has been great for me so far. I have full confidence in myself, my teammates, the staff – everyone at the club.

“They’ve been really close to me and they’ve helped me a lot. The city of Glasgow is awesome, I really like it. I’m really happy here.

“I’ve been settling in the city and at the club but it takes time, especially because of the style and the way we play. It’s different to where I’ve come from.

“So I’ve had to adapt and get better in every game. With confidence and getting minutes, I’ve been improving every week. But I still think I can do more and go even further.

“I’m still finding myself here but I’m getting more confident. The style of play in Scotland is not totally different to Spain but certain aspects are. It’s definitely more physical here, there is more contact. But at Celtic we’re used to having the ball a lot, which is the same as at Barcelona. So in that aspect, I’m fairly comfortable.”

Valle came to Celtic to get to know what it is like to play for a huge club in big games and to be fair to him, he has experienced that from both ends of the scale.

From the despair of Celtic’s 7-1 hammering by Borussia Dortmund to the elation of the Bhoys’ draw with Atalanta, Valle is quickly learning what it’s like to play for a club like Celtic against Europe’s elite.

But for now, Celtic heads to Fir Park to face Motherwell where the young Spaniard will now learn how to motivate himself and adapt from playing in the glamour of Bergamo to the bread and butter of the Scottish Premiership.
