Alex Valle has shown already exactly why Brendan Rodgers called him personally to get his Celtic loan over the line.

The left-back may only have had sporadic appearances thus far in a Hoops jersey but he has shown up well.

An outstanding backheel assist against St Johnstone was just one moment in particular which proved the 20-year-old can cut it in the Scottish Premiership.

He did, of course, come from Barcelona’s academy who have provided the world with numerous superstars and world beaters in the past number of years.

Rodgers was keen for a defender to rival Greg Taylor for his spot in the position and moved to bring Valle to the club, but the move had fans scratching their heads.

Valle arrived on a season-long loan from the Catalan giants but there was no future purchase option or obligation involved in the contract to get him to Scotland.

And that, according to a report, was Valle’s own doing himself.

Sport in his homeland report this morning that the player wanted to keep his options open following the end of his stint at Parkhead and required to option to be inserted.

Alex Valle refused to insert a purchase clause in his Celtic loan

Whether that be returning to Barca and pushing for a spot or finding an alternative, Valle made the call.

It has been widely reported that Valle’s future fee is relatively low at around £2.5million which was a major reason Celtic supporters were questioning the deal.

Some could not understand why no buy option had been included as is so often the case with deals such as this one.

Barcelona have valued the left-back at £2.5million

The Spanish youth international has managed two assists in his four outings so far and he has played in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.

The elite European competition has been cited as one of the major reasons the Spaniard opted for a move to Glasgow.
