Alex Valle will learn a lot about football during his loan spell at Celtic, but he is already showing the maturity and composure that will serve his career well.
Still just 20, the youngster comes across as a calm, measured individual, both in his performances at the Bhoys and in media appearances.
Valle has overcome a difficult debut against Falkirk in the Scottish League Cup to impress in subsequent matches against St Johnstone and Ross County.
The left-back even did decently in Celtic’s Champions League disaster away to Borussia Dortmund, functional in the second half after coming on as a substitute.
Inevitably, this has led to some considering whether he can usurp Greg Taylor in the Celtic team.

The Scotland international is lauded by some and criticised by others, but through the noise, he has been Brendan Rodgers’ trusted option since the manager’s return.
Through the week, Valle fielded questions on the competition with his fellow left-back and, rather than being too cocky or boastful, chose an answer of respect.
Alex Valle brushes off rivalry to play a team game at Celtic
The Barcelona loanee said when asked if he could stake a claim for more minutes with Taylor out injured [Daily Record]: “I don’t know Greg’s situation. I don’t actually mind.
“I just try to work for myself, and if I have the opportunity to play, I will give my best every game. I don’t mind if it’s Aberdeen or if it’s another team.
“For me, every weekend, I try my best, and that’s it. It’s a healthy competition.
“Greg has helped me a lot since I came here. Obviously, for the position, he can advise me really well. He’s a really good friend.”
It would have been easy to give a different answer here, one that would create more media noise or put more pressure on Taylor, but Valle navigated it well.
More opportunities will come for Valle at Celtic
Rodgers has been impressed with Valle after his first handful of Celtic appearances, and he will be used a lot over the coming weeks and months, whether Taylor puts his injury problems behind him or not.
It’s been a while since Celtic have had a viable rotation option in the position and the support should help get the best out of Taylor rather than hurt his status at the champions.
Valle understands his role this season and seems motivated to focus on his personal development regardless of when he is called upon. That attitude is very pleasing to see.
