Both Lanus and Alexandro Bernabei’s agent have spoken out amid speculation linking the player with a move to Celtic.

The original link to the Argentinian left-back came just over a week ago when Football Scotland claimed he was close to a Parkhead switch. However, as of yet, the left-back remains with his club with no fee reportedly being agreed as of yet.

The player missed several Lanus matchday squads due to personal reasons too in a move that cranked things up further. However, he’s returned to the squad list for today’s league match against Colon.

The latest report came from Argentinian outlet Engrandos who claimed several days ago that a move could be “hours away”. But both Lanus and the player’s agent have come out and delivered the latest. As quoted by the Daily Record, the 2 parties said the following:

Lanus: “If a suitable proposition arrives, we will study it. But at this moment, we aren’t not required to sell Alexandro.”

Oller Group: “We expect news in the next few weeks but Alexandro is calm. He has the ability to play and be successful in Europe. Now is not the time to discuss names but clubs are asking about him.”

Alexandro Bernabei to Celtic still doesn’t appear to be imminent

It would be great if Celtic managed to wrap up a deal for Bernabei before the beginning of the transfer window. However, if truth be told it doesn’t appear as if a move for him is imminent. There are still some hoops to jump through here.

The Daily Record believes that Celtic are trying to secure their man for around half of Lanus’ £4m valuation. Even if Lanus are indeed ready to sell, there’s still plenty of work still to be done.

Celtic of course kick off their pre-season tour when they head to Austria next month. Ange Postecoglou will almost certainly want Bernabei there well ahead of the new domestic campaign kicking off.

It’s absolutely imperative that Celtic have genuine left-back competition for Greg Taylor this summer. It can’t possibly be the case that we start another campaign with just one serious option for that position.

Yes, Celtic can still move Josip Juranovic over whilst Liam Scales and Boli Bolingoli remain at the club. But let’s not kid ourselves, we need Josip on the right and there needs to be a major upgrade down the left.

Fingers crossed Bernabei is that man should we get this one over the line.
