Alistair Johnston believes Celtic have a player who can be ‘one of the best’ in Scotland

With Brendan Rodgers still looking to strengthen Celtic before the transfer window closes, the Hoops boss has been told he already has a player in his ranks who can be ‘one of the best’ in Scotland.

With Adam Idah set to join Celtic this week, Rodgers will undoubtedly be looking to strengthen other areas of the pitch before the transfer window closes.

And one position in the Celtic squad that Rodgers doesn’t need to worry about is the right fullback area if Alistair Johnston‘s assertion is anything to go by.

Johnston bigs up Celtic teammate Anthony Ralston

The Canadian defender has just come off the back of a successful Copa America campaign and was speaking about how Celtic have helped him recover from the rigours of international football.

And in doing so, he highlighted Celtic teammate, Anthony Ralston, as having the potential to be one of the best fullbacks in Scotland.

Johnston said [Daily Record], “It’s not their first time having players go away for international duty and coming back, so they’ve done a good job so far already of managing me and making sure that not only am I physically ready, but mentally as well.

“I think that they’re going to pace me and manage pretty well throughout, especially these first couple of months.

“It’s not like we don’t have another right back. We’ve got Tony Ralston, who is more than capable of being one of the best fullbacks in this league. So we’re in a really good position in that way.”

Ralston never lets Celtic down

Ralston also featured heavily for Scotland in Euro 2024 this summer. After the national side were eliminated from the tournament in the group stages, the Celtic defender seemed to be a figure of blame for many people on social media.

However, what cannot be denied is that whenever he pulls on that Celtic jersey, Ralston has never let his team or his manager down over the last three seasons.

The Scotland defender enjoyed a career revival under Ange Postecoglou and regularly featured in Celtic’s first team in the Australian’s first year at the club.

Now a back up to Johnston, Ralston’s minutes on the pitch are not as regular as they used to be but one fact remains, whenever he is called upon, the 25-year-old gives his all for the cause and very rarely lets anyone down.
