‘All day’ – Pundit tells Brendan Rodgers one Celtic star he’d have picked over another in Aberdeen win

Celtic won the points against Aberdeen earlier this week and that’s all that mattered.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were perhaps not at their best but the victory pushed them seven clear of the Dons and 11 points ahead of rivals Rangers.

It was a blustery night of football at Pittodrie and tough for Celts to get the ball down and play their usual fast-paced, attacking style.

And that certainly did not suit everyone on the pitch in green and white.

Alex Valle did not have his best game for the club and he was replaced in the second-half by Greg Taylor who came up trumps with the assist for Reo Hatate’s goal which would ultimately prove to be the decisive strike.

That is why pundit and former Hearts midfielder Derek Ferguson believes Rodgers should have started with the Scottish left-back from the beginning in difficult conditions.

Spaniard Valle, on loan from Barcelona, has only been in Scotland since the summer and has not had to contend with the weather thus far as a separate challenge to his game.

And Ferguson, speaking on Open Goal’s Keeping the Ball on the Ground show, reckons GT3 would have been the more solid option as he is used to playing in the wind and rain.

The 57-year-old claims he’d said as much before kick-off and he insists he was justified in his shout after Taylor teed up his teammate for the goal to win the game.

“When I saw the lineup I was a wee bit surprised he didn’t play Taylor,” Ferguson said.

How Greg Taylor made an impact at Pittodrie from the bench

“He brought him on in the second-half and what an impact he had.

“I’d have played Taylor because going up there and you kind of know weather wise, it would maybe not suit Valle.

“I’d have gone with Taylor all day long. And I’d probably have went with Idah but Celtic have shown they can adapt.”
