“All the boys are on the team bus singing it now”; Celtic heroes loving new supporter chant

Aaron Mooy has shared his Celtic teammates have taken to singing the new fan song aired in honour of him on Wednesday night at Easter Road.

The away Celtic support sang “Aaron, Aaron Mooy” to the tune of Daddy Cool by Boney M during the 4-0 win, which the Australian midfielder grabbed a double in.

It’s reminiscent of the old terrace tune in support of Harry Kewell, back when he was one of the stand-out wingers in Europe. Leaving Edinburgh midweek, it seems the Celtic squad broke into a rendition of the chant after Mooy received man of the match honours. And it was Kewell who filled Mooy in on it all!

As quoted by The Scottish Daily Mail [30/12 print edition, page 65], Mooy said: “All the boys are on the team bus singing it now. Harry Kewell mentioned it to me and I didn’t understand, now I do!

“It’s always nice when the supporters get behind you, that’s what you want. I just try and improve, work hard and do my best — that’s all I can do. Hopefully, they like what they see. It’s not really in my control. I try my best.

“I just keep going, keep trying to get better and hopefully keep helping the team. It’s a great feeling to score my first goals for Celtic. I have had chances in previous games and they haven’t come off for me. So yeah, when one goes in it’s an amazing feeling.

“I’m enjoying it, it’s an amazing club. It was a shock because it’s a big, big club. There’s 60,000 people every home game, demanding a win. It’s a different sort of pressure, but I’m enjoying it. Hopefully, it makes me a better player.”

Mooy’s adjustment to life at Celtic was initially slow but Ange Postecoglou warned us all of that when he arrived.

The Bhoys boss has always maintained we’ll see the best of the midfielder in the second half of the season as his fitness levels improved from a lack of football in 2022.

Based on Wednesday night’s showing, that’s now coming true and it’ll be exciting to see if Mooy can kick on from here and become a consistent force for Celtic.

With the full support of fans behind him too, confidence should only improve the Australian’s overall game.
