Ally McCoist admits that the displays of Celtic so far in this season’s Europa League have “been great to see.”
Neil Lennon’s men are already assured of knockout football after taking nine points from their first possible ten in Group E. They still have the task of topping the section – and could do so this Thursday – but the group stage campaign will be looked at as a success regardless of happens in our final two matches.
And Rangers favourite McCoist admits the performances of Lennon’s men, and his former employers, have been great to see.

He told Sky Sports News: “In terms of the coefficient for Scotland, both club’s performances in Europe have been a breath of fresh air. It has genuinely, genuinely been great to see.
“Who would have thought that Rangers versus Porto and Celtic versus Lazio, home and away, we’d have three wins and a draw.
“So Rangers and Celtic deserve enormous credit for their European performances but you just can’t take your foot off the pedal.”

McCoist praising Celtic says a lot
McCoist is always likely to praise the side from Govan but the fact he also included Lennon’s men speaks volumes. Few would have anticipated us being in this position after four matches but it’s all down to the manager and the players who have excelled on the European stage.
Some may look at our last gasp victories over Lazio and suggest that we were a tad fortunate. The truth is that our performances merited both results. Of course you could argue that the Italians created some big chances over the two matches, but that’s what you would expect from a quality side.

The fact we were able to rise above them and grind out two wins says a lot about our squad. Ten points is a fair reflection of our Europa League displays so far. If anything, you could argue that we could’ve had a full house following our terrific display in Rennes.
We face the French side again this Thursday in terrific spirits. A victory should confirm top spot and strengthen an already almighty achievement.
