Ally McCoist has admitted that there is a ‘big difference’ between Celtic and Rangers after Brendan Rodgers’ team’s 5-1 win over Slovan Bratislava.

The victory over the Slovakians takes Celtic to second place in the league just behind Bayern Munich on goal difference as Rodgers dispelled the Parkhead side’s miserable opening-day winless run in some style.

Goals from new Bhoys Arne Engels and Adam Idah were bolstered by the Celtic old guard (if we can call them that now) of Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda and the ever-impressing Liam Scales.

And the win has left Ally McCoist in a ponderous mood as he admits that there is now a ‘big difference’ between Celtic and his old club.

McCoist lauds Celtic’s ‘very, very good’ recruitment

Brendan Rodgers was very busy in the transfer market this summer as he added no less than seven new faces to strengthen his squad.

And McCoist had admitted that it is the Celtic Park club’s work behind the scenes that has left him impressed this season.

McCoist told talkSPORT, “They [Slovan Bratislava] were murder. I’ve seen the highlights. I was at a proper Champions League game last night. I was at Manchester City against Inter Milan.

“I’m going to say now that if that Bratislava team was playing in my back garden last night I would have closed the curtains.

“In all seriousness that was some result for Celtic last night. I know I’m kidding on, but that was some result.

“He [Nicholas Kuhn] is good. They’ve got two or three that look okay but that’s one of the big differences in terms of recruitment.

“Celtic’s recruitment in recent years has been very, very good and ours across the city has been nothing like it.

“That’s one of the big differences.”

Celtic’s impressive strength in depth

It’s not just Celtic’s first team that will be important this season, the strength coming off the bench will also play a huge part as well.

Looking at last night, two of Celtic’s substitutes combined to finish the match in emphatic style as James Forrest laid off a lovely assist for Adam Idah.

Forrest has once again done his argument for a new contract no harm at all after making another impact off the bench for Rodgers.

The Celtic boss is blessed with quality from the bench and with another transfer window to come, Rodgers could easily add one or two more players after the Celtic’s latest impressive financial results.
